The Walk with Pride (WWP) project will include London Pride 2010 in its international photo collection. London Pride is the twelfth parade to be documented by the WWP project, and images will be shown alongside those from Taipei, Manila, Sydney, Vilnius, Minsk, Bucharest, Moscow, Athens, Turkey, Zagreb, and Sofia.
The project’s intention is to visualize the struggles and celebrations of the global gay community in over 20 countries. While imagery often celebrates the colorful atmosphere of parades, the project also displays the diversity of the international LGBT community. Images and stories from each parade can be seen on the project’s website, with the collection is to be published at the completion of the year long project.
Developed by Charles Meacham, a photographer with over 20 international photography awards including those from National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, the IPA, and PDN magazines, he is joined by Sarah Baxter, who is the blogger and coordinator for the project.
While their foremost aim with the project is to encourage pride in diversity, they also hope to generate a greater concern by those outside the gay community regarding the subject of equal rights.
As Meacham explains, "Gay rights, like all human rights, is a topic that we both sincerely and enthusiastically support, so we wanted to do something to support the movement, and help people see it in this light."
