Dennis KnowlesA Conservative councillor from Wirral, recently in the news for alleged homophobia, took part in the first ever Liverpool Pride parade at the weekend.

Councillor Denis Knowles, who represents Seacombe ward in Wallasey, was recently cleared of homophobia by LGBTory, the Conservative LGBT group, and although the group’s Chairman, Matthew Sephton, stated his comments had been “inappropriate” he was satisfied that he isn’t a homophobe.

Councillor Knowles, who has since become a member of the Terence Higgins Trust and has been working closely with their Merseyside group, was spotted marching in the Liverpool parade wearing a blue THT tee shirt with red ribbon and appeared relaxed and to be enjoying the experience.

London Pride selected as the 12th Pride parade to be photographed by the Walk with Pride projectThe Walk with Pride (WWP) project will include London Pride 2010 in its international photo collection.  London Pride is the twelfth parade to be documented by the WWP project, and images will be shown alongside those from Taipei, Manila, Sydney, Vilnius, Minsk, Bucharest, Moscow, Athens, Turkey, Zagreb, and Sofia.

The project’s intention is to visualize the struggles and celebrations of the global gay community in over 20 countries.  While imagery often celebrates the colorful atmosphere of parades, the project also displays the diversity of the international LGBT community. Images and stories from each parade can be seen on the project’s website, with the collection is to be published at the completion of the year long project.  Read more...

Founded in 1992, GMFA is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to gay men’s health. Its mission is to improve gay men’s health by increasing the control they have over their own lives. On 3 July, GMFA, the gay men’s health charity, will be handing out free condoms and lube in designer travelcard wallets to the thousands of party-goers at Pride London. So if you’re planning to take the fun back to the bedroom on Pride night, be sure to stock up on your safer sex essentials.

The condom-holding travelcard wallets encourage men to ‘Ride Safely’. With a funky new red design, which supports the Pride theme of ‘painting the town ruby red’, the wallets are a must-have accessory for gay guys around town this Summer. You can pick them up from GMFA volunteers along the parade route, or from the GMFA stall at Trafalgar Square. GMFA’s volunteers will be kitted out in ruby red T-shirts and will march with placards emblazoned with safer sex messages.

The ‘robotic’ gay motif for the T-shirts and wallets was designed by Lazaros Kakoulidis, a design student at the London College of Communication. He won GMFA’s competition to find a contemporary design fitting for this year’s Pride parade.
