FacebookLGBT activists across the world were furious yesterday, following an allegation that Facebook had banned pictures of same-sex kisses.

The details emerged in a blog post on the website ‘Dangerous minds’, and follows last week’s furore with the John Snow pub in Soho, where Jonathan Williams, 26 and Jamie Bull, 23, were asked to leave for kissing.

As a consequence of these revelations, Facebook members were urged by LGBT campaigners to post pictures of same-sex kissing in order to challenge attitudes that there could ever be anything wrong with this. The result? A very swift victory for gay campaigners. Facebook were quick to make a u-turn and apologised in a matter of hours. In a statement they admitted that “the photo in question does not violate our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and was removed in error. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Commenting on behalf of LGBTory, the Conservative LGBT group, Chairman Matthew Sephton, said, “These allegations were very worrying indeed. They suggested that there is somehow something inappropriate or wrong about two people of the same sex showing affection for each other by kissing or being seen kissing. This was wholly unacceptable and I am delighted that Facebook have dealt with the matter in such a rapid manner.”
