Appeal for Runners for the Brighton Marathon

Running ShoesHIV and sexual health charity, Terrence Higgins Trust is launching an appeal for people to take part in the first ever Brighton Marathon and help raise funds for the charity. THT has guaranteed places for the marathon which takes place on Sunday 18th April 2010.

The inaugural race route will take in some of the best spots in the city centre as well as fabulous stretches of coastal road. The course is reasonably fast and flat, touring much of the city of Brighton and Hove and taking in the glorious coastal views. Brighton is a great alternative to the London Marathon, and is set to be a spring classic in its own right.

In return for a guaranteed place THT asks runners to raise a minimum sponsorship of £350. Money raised will be used to support THT’s vital services providing support for people living with or affected by HIV.

Lap Dancing Club to Turn Gay

Rainbow FlagA lap dancing club will become Canterbury’s only gay venue when it re-opens next week.

The new opening will be music to the ears of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pressure group Pride in Canterbury, who last week sparked national interest when they claimed the city was not gay enough.

Initially at least Scribes, at 51 King Street, was criticised by neighbours and religious groups who did not want a lap dancing club in the city centre, let alone one in the shadow of Canterbury Cathedral.

But the new owners of the pub, who also run well known gay venues Coyotes in Chatham and The Queen Ann in Maidstone, say the venue – which will offer drag artists, tribute acts, DJs and camp bingo  – will be more acceptable in its new guise.
