Death of Frankie Howerds Secret Lover

Frankie HowerdFrankie Howerd's secret lover of 41 years, Dennis Heymer, has died at the Somerset home they shared.

Heymer, 82, who was also the comedian’s manager, was a waiter when he met Howerd in 1955, when homosexuality was still illegal. The comedian struggled with his sexuality. Only their closest friends knew they were lovers.

‘He hated being gay,’ Heymer once said. ‘At the beginning I was hidden away when anyone of note came here (to their house). I was hidden away from his sister, and his mother for a time.’

Three hundred and seventeen employers took part in the benchmarking exercise this year from campaigning group Stonewall who track the impact of workplace culture on gay, lesbian and bisexual employees. Organisations which apply to be included on the index are examined on the success of their diversity policies and the extent to which they encourage job applications from lesbian and gay workers.
