Spurred on by World AIDS Day last week, award winning theatre actresses Dame Judie Dench and Diane Pilkington are supporting THEATRECARES’ Christmas campaign, aimed at raising funds for adults and children affected by HIV and AIDS living in poverty.

In 2009, THEATRECARES is continuing its annual Christmas Campaign which – with the support of theatres across London – aims to raise money to support adults and children affected by HIV and AIDS experiencing severe hardship. From the 12th December to 11th January 2010, theatres will be carrying out collections on Theatrecares’ behalf as part of a campaign spearheaded by actresses Dame Judi Dench and Dianne Pilkington, who are firm supporters of Crusaid’s work.

Dame Judi Dench said, “HIV and AIDS have not gone away. By giving to the THEATRECARES Christmas campaign the public will be helping Crusaid to continue to support adults, children and whole communities affected by this illness.”

Formerly West End Cares, THEATRECARES has become a regular feature of the theatre scene. Over the years, actors, actresses and production teams of hit shows have pulled together to raise money for people affected by HIV and AIDS. To date THEATRECARES has raised over £800,000 from bucket collections for people living in poverty affected by HIV and AIDS.

Star of Wicked, Diane Pilkington said, "This Christmas, spare a thought for adults and children affected by HIV and AIDS living in severe poverty - a donation to THEATRECARES, no matter how big or small, will go a long way."
