Conservative Candidate: Section 28 Was Correct

ConservativesProspective Conservative MP Philip Lardner has spelt out his support for the disgraced Section 28 on his website. Section 28 was introduced by the Conservatives and outlawed the "promotion" of homosexuality in schools.

"Homosexuality is not 'normal behaviour'." the North Ayrshire and Arran candidate had written under the heading 'What I believe in'.

His homophobic rant explained, "I will always support the rights of homosexuals to be treated within concepts of (common sense) equality and respect, and defend their rights to choose to live the way they want in private, but I will not accept that their behaviour is 'normal' or encourage children to indulge in it. The promotion of homosexuality by public bodies... was correctly outlawed by Mrs Thatcher's government. Toleration and understanding is one thing, but the state promotion of homosexuality is quite another."

Anti-Gay Street Pastor Warning

BibleThe Gay and Lesbian Humanist Association (GALHA) has serious concerns about reports that Westminster City Council's plans to encourage religious street pastors in the borough, including in Soho.

The Street Pastor movement is backed by Christian groups including evangelist sects bitterly opposed to gay equality, gay adoption and even gay partnerships. This raises the question of whether the Council, responsible for the welfare of all residents, should promote this activity. GALHA desires a society where  people whatever their views or  sexuality should enjoy equal freedom, dignity and respect without fear of prejudice and the "moral" judgement of the religious.

GALHA Chair Adam Knowles commented, "Soho is one of the few parts of Britain where LGBT people can be free and open about their sexuality in the way that straight people can take for granted wherever they are. And even here there have been violent homophobic attacks - including one particularly brutal, public murder just a year ago.

Cameron's Worrying Answer to Faith School Sex Ed

David CameronDavid Cameron has answered questions from The Catholic Herald about sex education in faith schools and other topics.

He was asked if he would allow Catholic schools complete freedom over the teaching of sex education, including on abortion and contraception. His worrying answer would allow faith schools to teach sex education in line with their often homophobic values.

Cameron says, "Schools should be allowed to teach it in a way that’s consistent with their beliefs, and parents should be free to decide whether or not their children should take part in these lessons. That’s why we back the amendment to the Bill to allow faith schools the freedom to teach these issues in line with their own values. I think parents who have chosen a faith-based education for their children should have that decision respected. I’m a big supporter of faith schools and I think it’s really important that their rights are protected in this way."

Conservatives say B&B's Should Be Allowed to Ban Gays

Homophobic ConservativesB&B's should be allowed to turn away gay couples because of their sexuality, a leading Conservative has said.

Shadow home secretary Chris Grayling said large hotels should not be allowed to discriminate against homosexuals, but he suggested family run B&B's should have the right to decide who stays in their home and not accept gay couples.

His outrageous comments were recorded in a meeting of the Centre for Policy Studies think-tank. Such a change would be a step backwards from the Equality Act 2006 that outlaws discrimination on goods and services on the grounds of sexual orientation.

"I think we need to allow people to have their own consciences. I personally always took the view that, if you look at the case of should a Christian hotel owner have the right to exclude a gay couple from a hotel, I took the view that if it's a question of somebody who's doing a B&B in their own home, that individual should have the right to decide who does and who doesn't come into their own home.", he said in a recording of the meeting.
