"Hampshire PCT" has now become NHS Hampshire and Hampshire Community Health Care in line with Lord Darzi’s NHS Next Stage Review and the NHS Operating Plan. NHS Hampshire invests in Hampshire’s health – it has a £1.6 billion budget to buy all the health care that local people need and work with local people to help them live longer, have healthier lives.
Hampshire Community Health Care (HCHC) has a budget of £134 million to provide a range of community-based health services that enable patients to receive high quality care in the most appropriate setting. HCHC, which employs 3,200 people across the county, aims to bring health care home through a range of community services including gay mens health projects and at its 12 community hospitals and numerous health centres across Hampshire.
“NHS Hampshire is more than a name, it is a promise to local people that we will invest in the best quality health care services,” said Richard Samuel, director of performance and standards for NHS Hampshire. “It is our job to make sure that everything about the local NHS, whether that’s your local GP, community services or general hospital is of the highest standard and available when and where you need it.”
“We know that Hampshire is one of the healthiest counties in England, but there are big differences in life expectancy depending on where you live. We are committed to closing this gap and making sure that everyone in Hampshire has the same opportunity to live a long and healthy life,” said Richard.
“Becoming Hampshire Community Health Care will let us focus on managing and improving the services we deliver to patients,” said Katrina Percy, Chief Executive of Hampshire Community Health Care. “Many of our services help people stay independent in their own homes, help reduce unnecessary admissions to large hospitals, provide support for patients after major operations and to children and their families,” she said.
“We have a responsibility towards our patients and partners to provide high quality, cost effective services for the people of Hampshire,” said Katrina .
NHS Hampshire and Hampshire Community Health Care formed in February 2009 after the Hampshire Primary Care Trust’s (PCT) Public Board agreed to split in September 2008. Hampshire PCT remains the legal umbrella organisation for both NHS Hampshire and Hampshire Community Health Care.
