Homophobia remains an institutional practice in post-Communist Europe, as evidenced by Lithuania's introduction of legislation akin to Britain's defunct Section 28.
This is despite that country's membership of the European Union and the expectation of a commitment to its ethos of social equality.
Beyond the Pink Curtain is a documentary that highlights the problems faced in the East, while questioning the West's authority to pass judgment and investigating the power and responsibility of the European Union to protect us. It features activists from Lithuania, Serbia, Poland, the UK and pan-European NGOs, and interviews with members of the far Right in Serbia.

Gay Big Brother housemate Charlie Drummond has said he would pursue a relationship with a man in the BB house if someone suitable entered.
Former Mr Gay UK finalist said it would be great if there was a gay relationship this year. He commented, "Can you imagine that? It'll be groundbreaking."
However Charlie said that he would like to have a relationship in the house but there is no-one that he could be serious with.
He added, "There's people in the house that I would go with and shag and stuff, even after a drunk, but there is no-one I'd pursue and want. But if they did put in someone that I thought 'ohh' and they were bi or gay... I'd love a good chase. You haven't seen my flirty side, but I flirt loads. But it'll be really good for the show. They've never had that."
Charlie's options so far seem limited to cute bi - Brazilian Rodrigo, however new housemates may be added as in previous years.
